Red Sox Follow Four-Game Losing Streak with Sweep of Blue Jays

This year’s Red Sox just love to keep us guessing. Following a complete shut down by the Orioles last weekend, the Sox just swept the Blue Jays.  A disastrous weekend has morphed into a great week.  Hanley Ramirez homered in back-to-back games.  Chris Sale achieved 1500 career strikeouts in his 17th 10+ K game of the season.  After scoring 4 runs to the Orioles 25 over three games last weekend, I seriously questioned this team’s ability to perform.

Though a 50% week isn’t our best, it’s better than the direction we were headed after this weekend.  This season has been a rollercoaster of wins and losses with a sometimes-inexplicable first place standing, but it looks like a playoff run is still possible.

Game Highlights:

– Mitch Moreland had 4 RBIs in 2 at-bats with a pinch-hitting 2-run homer in the 7th and a 2-RBI single in the 8th

– Hanley Ramirez homered tonight and last night, so hopefully he’s back in fighting form since we’re Papi-less for the first potential playoff run since 2003

– Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers completed a rare double steal

– Rick Porcello had 7 K’s over 6.2 innings

– Joe Kelly pitched a 1-2-3 8th inning

– Even though Toronto scored first in the 3rd, Hanley tied it up in the 5th and the Sox went on to win 7-1

– The Red Sox remain in first place and have resolidified a 5.5 game lead over the Yankees
