I read dozens of baseball stories and articles every day, so I thought I’d start linking to some of my favorites in a weekly roundup!
Chad Finn‘s story about Dennis Eckersley is heartwarming, emotional, and beautiful. It also got everyone in a tizzy about his encounter with David Price back in 2017, so you should probably check it out if you’re not sure why this week has felt like one, big Throwback Thursday. You should also read the follow-up piece Finn wrote after s**t hit the fan this week.
Jarrett Seidler wrote possibly my favorite baseball piece ever, a scouting report for Rookie, the Bat Dog for the Trenton Thunder.
Speaking of Boston writers named Chad, Chad Jennings wrote a lovely tribute to now-former Sox player Eduardo Nuñez, who was designated for assignment this week. His career in Boston spanned two very memorable years, and we thank him for all the times he sacrificed his body with abandon for the game.
This isn’t new, but it’s one of the best pieces I’ve ever read about a ballplayer and growing up loving baseball: Michael Paterniti‘s epic tribute to the late Yankees captain Thurman Munson in a September 1999 edition of Esquire.
