If you were hoping to see Jimmy Garoppolo back in a Patriots uniform any time ever, you’re officially out of luck. The former backup QB turned San Francisco 49ers stud just signed a 5-year, $137.5 million dollar contract.
Per NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo (I know, Garofolo and Garoppolo is about as fun to say as Gostkowski and Gronkowski), the deal is the biggest in NFL history on an average-per-year basis. Garoppolo will make $27.5 million per year.
For someone who hasn’t even played a full season as a starting QB, let alone a full season on his current team, this is a huge show of faith from the 49ers organization. Garoppolo will be the highest-paid player in the NFL, as well as the highest-paid QB.
If you’re wondering, Tom Brady currently makes $20.5 million/season (per Forbes.com), making him the 15th highest-paid QB in the league. Absurd.
